What was meant to take a year, took four. There was no plan — only a feeling that the story needed time. So I waited. For the moments to arrive, for the truth to reveal itself, for Gēn and Backdoor Bodega to become what they were meant to be.
A small crew, a self-funded dream, and a process guided by trust more than control. Built quietly, over late nights and early mornings, this film lived in the in-between. Between shoots, between edits, between certainty and doubt.
Penang has always been seen for its street food. But after dark, it becomes something else. A world of craft, of intention — of fine dining and cocktails shaped by those willing to go against the grain.
This is a story about that kind of belief. The kind that doesn't rush. The kind that endures.
